Fata Morgana
this morning
winter sun pours
through dark oaks
on the avenue
bright clean and rich
and the soul soars
and the body feels
every cell is about to break
through illusion
and disperse
into pure shine
Sidney Wade’s eighth volume of poems, Deep Gossip: New & Selected Poems, will be published by Johns Hopkins University Press in April 2020. Bird Book was published by Atelier26 in 2016. She taught poetry and translation in the MFA@FLA Creative Writing Program at the University of Florida for 21 years and is currently professor emerita.
